Our client, a 32 year old married woman, presented to the emergency department with severe lower abdominal pain greater on the right than the left. The attending physician mistakenly diagnosed her with a sexually transmitted disease and sent her home with pain medication and antibiotics. Several days later, she awoke in severe pain and was taken back to the emergency department, where exploratory surgery revealed a ruptured appendix and severe peritonitis. She was gravely ill for more than a week and suffered permanent damage to her reproductive system.
The case settled before suit was filed for a confidential amount.
